WA-87 R2: Introducing an upgraded and improved condenser microphone in 87 style
In 2016, we at Warm Audio introduced a condenser microphone in the style of the 87, and everyones attention turned to this microphone that reproduced the quality of authentic microphones at an affordable price. In simple terms, the launch of the WA-87 changed the industrys perception of what could be achieved at an affordable price. Based on classic circuits from the 1960s, the rich sound of the WA-87 became the favorite microphone of countless producers, sound engineers and musicians.
From the release of the WA-87 in 2016, we learned much more about microphone manufacturing, and this experience led us to see if we could improve the WA-87 without having to increase the price, and the result is the new WA-87 R2! We used everything weve learned about recreating vintage microphones over the past five years, and we offer you the new WA-87 R2 which is larger, of better quality and simply better!
Faithful reproduction with premium components
The WA-87 R2 is based on a classic 1960s circuit that is widely regarded as one of the best studio microphones ever designed. We spent countless hours trying to get even closer to the vintage sound than we had with the WA-87, so the new WA-87 R2 uses high-quality components, NOS Fairchild transistors and Wima capacitors. The WA-87 R2 uses a Cinemag USA output transformer like the original WA-87, with the new version providing slightly increased output level and improved frequency response. We also used the same capsule that the WA-87 uses, which was designed according to the exact specifications found in vintage microphones. The result is an incredibly accurate sonic replica of the undeniably most widely used studio microphone in the history of recording!
The most versatile microphone in your collection
Like the authentic vintage microphone, the WA-87 R2 excels at recording on almost all sources. With three polar patterns (cardioid, omni and figure-of-eight), it adapts to a wide variety of applications and includes an 80Hz high-pass filter if needed. The -10dB pad switch is convenient when you want to record extremely loud sources without overloading the internal electronics. The WA-87 R2 works beautifully on vocals, drums, guitars, piano, auxiliary percussion, strings, brass and more

The new WA-87 R2 is slightly larger with better electronics, and the new rounded head shape adds extra space around the capsule for a more pleasant sonic signature. With authentic vintage warmth, it has a smooth sound with detail and extended frequency response. We truly believe this microphone performs equally to microphones that cost five times more.
